How to know value of resistor
I have a resistor, how can I find the value of the resistor?
Answer
There are two simple methods to get the resistance of the resistor:
- Measuring the resistance by using a multimeter
- Calculating the resistance using a Color code calculator
The first method is the easiest and works for every kind of resistors. It also works for not only resistor but also other compoment shuch as potentiometer, LDR sensor. However, you need to have a multimeter in hand.
The second method can be used in the case of you do not have a multimeter. However, This method does not work in the following cases:
- Colors on the resistor are faded, It is not correct to determine the right color name.
- SMD resistor
For SMD resistor, you can use the fist method or calculate the value based on the resistor code marked on the resistor. Please refer to this link to know how to calculate the resistance
